NATIONAL SYMBOLS

The Pambansang Watawat ng Pilipinas (the National flag of the Philippines) is a flag made up of two horizontal  stripes of blue and red arranged horizontally and of equal size; on the pole  side there is a white equilateral triangle in the center of which is a golden yellow sun with eight major rays, representing the first eight provinces that rebelled against the Spanish and placed by the latter under Martial Law and sixteen minor rays. On each side of the triangle there is a golden yellow five-pointed star, each of which currently represents one of the three main island groups of the Archipelago: Luzon, Visayas
(originally Panay) and Mindanao. In the modern meaning the white triangle represents freedom, equality and brotherhood, while the horizontal blue stripe  represents peace, truth and justice and the horizontal red stripe represents patriotism and valor.
One of the peculiarities of the national flag of the Philippines is that this, the only example in the world, is displayed upside down in the event that the country is in a state of war, i.e. with the red stripe above the blue one.
